Growth Responses of Tobacco Seedlings in Asep- Tic Culture to Diffusates of Some Common Soil Bacteria '

چکیده

The conditions that cause the development of symptoms of frenching in tobacco {Nicotiana tabacum L.) plants are unknown. Low nitrogen, ^ low acidity, and excessive moisture ^ have at times been held to be contributing factors. Nevertheless soil from fields of severely frenched plants was often incapable of producing this morphological abnormality in the greenhouse. Abnormal plants transplanted to fresh soil almost always resume normal growth. The disorder is non transmissible. Spencer^ and others have therefore suggested that a labile organic substance (toxin) sometimes present in soils may be the causative agent in this disease. Bacterial interrelations as revealed through studies with antibiotics seem to indicate the possibility that similar diffusâtes capable of a direct action on plants may also accumulate in soil under certain conditions. Data published by the writer ^ ^ afford direct evidence that low concentrations of an organic substance, the amino acid dlisoleucine, in contact with the roots of tobacco seedlings in aseptic cultures may bring about morphological abnormalities resembling those of frenching. The present studies were therefore undertaken to determine whether any of the more common species of soil bacteria form diffusâtes capable of causing abnormal alterations in gross morphology of tobacco plants. The seedlings were aseptically grown in a constant environment. The growth medium selected was a slightly acid mineral agar containing a trace of Bacto-peptone. With or without sucrose

Accumulation of Free Amino Acids as a Chemical Basis for Morphological Symptoms in Tobacco Manifesting Frenching and Mineral Deficiency Symptoms.

The chemical mechanism whereby plants respond to modifications in environment resulting in alterations in morphology has on the whole remained obscure. However, whatever the cause, it is clear that each change in environment may result in the appearance of a whole aggregate of symptoms characteristically specific for each condition. No change in environment can be said to cause only a single sy...

Biochemical and Antioxidant Responses of Borage Seedlings in Saline Environments

Background: Although borage ( Borago officinalis L.) is a valuable medicinal plant, no information is available on the responses of this plant to salinity. For this reason, it is necessary to determine responses of this plant to salinity .  Objective: Since germination and early growth stage is one of the most critical phases of plant life under salinity condition this experiment was conducte...

Effects of mannan oligosaccharide supplementation on growth, some immune responses and gut lactic acid bacteria of common carp (Cyprinus Carpio) fingerlings

This study was conducted to determine the effects of mannan oligosaccharide (MOS) on growth, some immune responses and gut lactic acid bacteria of common carp. Four experimental diets containing 0%, 0.05%, 0.10% and 0.20% MOS were prepared. Each diet was randomly allocated to triplicate groups of fish with initial average weight of approximately 14 g. After eight weeks, survival rate was high i...

Evaluation of different growth media for tomato seedlings to optimize production and water use

ABSTRACT- Soilless cultivation systems are used to attain higher performance, improve crop quality, conserve water and land, and protect the environment better. This study has attempted to use some agricultural wastes and organic matter, and management practices to optimize water holding capacity of cultural media, which are suitable for the growth of tomato seedlings (Solanum lycopersicum.). F...

The ability of marine Bacillus spp. isolated from fish gastrointestinal tract and culture pond sediment to inhibit growth of aquatic pathogenic bacteria

In this research, antagonistic activity of two Bacillus species isolated from digestive tract of marine fish and culture pond of sea cucumber was studied. The inhibitory activity of Bacillus spp. isolates against some common pathogenic bacteria of fish was assessed using the agar diffusion method. The strain of B. subtilis G024 exhibited antimicrobial activity against Vibrio anguillarum, V. har...
